Recode’s science podcast Recode has been a force to be reckoned with for decades.
It’s been the driving force behind many tech startups, and it’s made a huge impact on the industry as a whole.
Now, the show is poised to take over the tech world as the biggest podcast on the planet.
And it has some big plans for the future.
“We have a lot of plans, and I think the podcasting industry needs to be much more proactive,” Recode cofounder Kara Swisher told Recode.
“If you’re a company that is making big bets on technology, the podcast industry is the one industry where you really have to get on board and invest in.”
One of those investments is the Recode Podcast Network, which will allow listeners to connect with a network of other podcast listeners across different platforms.
In the coming weeks, the network will also introduce a new podcast, called Science and Tech, that will give listeners an opportunity to meet with other science and tech-savvy podcasters.
Recode is currently expanding its network to include podcasts about other topics, like weather, sports, and health.
Swisher said the new network will bring together “a whole bunch of people in science and technology who are really interested in the things that are happening.”
The Recode Network will be powered by an API, and will let listeners easily subscribe and listen to podcasts from other platforms.
Recodes technology will help make that happen.
“The best way to grow the business of the podcast is to let people hear from other people who have really good stories and understand what’s going on in the world,” Swisher explained.
“So that’s what we’re really excited about.”
The team is also working on ways to make the Recodes podcast more accessible for people of all ages, from children to people with disabilities.
“There’s a lot we want to do to make sure that the podcast that we’re creating is accessible to everybody, and we’re always working on those things,” Swish said.
The new network, which was announced last week, is being launched by Recode CEO Michael Rapaport, who previously led Discovery Communications, where he led Discovery’s technology efforts for years.
The launch comes a little more than two years after the launch of the Recoded podcast.
“It was a great opportunity for us to do something that would help us build a platform that we would be proud of and that we’d be able to call our own,” Swished said.
“This is the right thing to do for our business.”
What’s next for the Recoding Podcast Network?
The new podcast will allow users to join a network where they can find others who share their interests.
There will be a “shared list” feature where members can follow and listen and also “join conversations about the latest news, podcast reviews, and what’s happening in the real world.”
There will also be an “listen, discuss, and discover” feature, where members will have the ability to follow and interact with the other members.
Swishers said the network is also being developed to support other topics in science, including health, sports and more.
“You can follow all the science podcasts and then you can follow a variety of sports teams and other people and find out how they’re doing,” Swishers explained.
In addition to new features like the “listens, discuss and discover,” the new site will also bring in “new podcasts that are really interesting and really useful and really relevant.”
“The goal is to give our listeners an easier way to find and engage with all the great content that we do,” Swishes said.
